'Until Death'
(Jean-Claude Van Damme, Stephen Lord, et al / DVD / R / 2007 / Sony Pictures)

Overview: Van Damme plays a dirty cop who is hooked on heroin, and everyone dislikes him. Because of an accident he is put into a coma, and comes out of it a better person. He wakes up wanting to put things right.

DVD Verdict: "They put him in a coma, now he's going to put them out of their misery!" Now THAT'S a movie tag line if ever I read one! In his latest straight-to-DVD attempt, action hero Jean-Claude Van Damme stars in this bone-chilling, action-packed thriller as Anthony Lowe, a down-and-out detective who is addicted to heroine and whose day always seems to go from bad to worse. Lowe is coming off of a drug deal in which two officers were killed and the primary villain, the drugs, the money and the surveillance tapes are still at large. He is also dealing with his wife, who has just informed him that she is pregnant - but the child is not his! After a gunfight, Lowe comes very close to death and falls into a coma. While on the road to recovery, Lowe finds himself in a very personal battle to make amends with his kidnapped wife and to avenge his assailant once and for all. Personally, I like this new mature Van Damme. First IN HELL, then in WAKE OF DEATH, and now in UNTIL DEATH they're the best films of his career. He's actually starting to show some genuine acting talent. I hope this trend continues! This is a Widescreen Presentation (2.35:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes no Special Features.
