'Pumpkinhead - Ashes To Ashes'
(Doug Bradley, Lance Henriksen, et al / DVD / R / (2006) 2007 / Columbia Pictures)

Overview: He threw their loved ones into a swamp. Now they want revenge. But when a demon does their dirty work, it comes at a price. A corrupt town Doctor (Doug Bradley) and his grave-robbing family are the cause of the Demons revival this time around.

DVD Verdict: I was a big fan of the original film and even liked 'Pumpkinhead II,' but it was a let down in many ways after loving the original so much. With this film I feel that it really is different and a pretty good sequel ... really! The story moves along well enough without any real lagging and everything looks pretty good here. Sure there are some dodgy CGI effects of Pumpkinhead himself, but all in all it's a good addition to the series. The gore is up there like the first one and it maintains that more sinister feeling of dread like the first film that 'Pumpkinhead II' didn't possess.

The acting is VERY good along with most of the effects and even Pumpkinhead himself comes across somewhat more alive, more vibrant! Some fans complain that he doesn't look as good as the original, but that was some time ago and movies evolve ... and so to do the make-up teams! This film is pretty much made for fans and it shows. It treats you to some very well shot scenes, a good story for what it is and a fun horror movie. Now, the film does have it's gross out moments with all of the rotting corpses etc., but that all just adds to it's great atmosphere!

So, if you liked the first two you should like this one well enough. If you are a new fan definitely check out the first two before you rent or buy this third installment. The next installment should be out soon enough as it was filmed back-to-back with this one. Lance returns in that one as well ... thankfully! Again, this film can't really be compared to the original and in all fairness shouldn't be. For fans, it's a must have. For new viewers it is (at its very least) worth a rent if you like low budget monster movies ... with bite! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with no Special Features.
