'Jockeys'
(Various / 2-Disc DVD / NR / 2009 / Genius Products)

Overview: Every day is a gamble for the diminutive powerhouses commanding horse racing’s top thoroughbreds in JOCKEYS, arriving on DVD June 30 from Animal Planet and Genius Products. Exposing the most dangerous two minutes in sports, the docu-soap brings viewers into a world of ferocious rivalries, fierce bonds and extraordinary risk.

DVD Verdict: What a ride (every pun intended!) here as Animal Planet brings viewers into a world dominated by ferocious rivalries, fierce bonds and extraordinary risk as it documents the behind-the-scenes lives of jockeys and their magnificent racehorses.

Ruled by 112 lb. men (or less, trust me!) on 1,200 lb. thoroughbreds - equipped with oversized personalities and big dreams - both the horses and the men riding them, 'Jockeys' follows numerous athletes as they compete amongst each other during the course of a 30-day racing season.

As we find out, literally months of preparation go into each one-to-two-minute race, and jockeys ride as many as 10 races a day ... most cases with an ambulance traveling at high speeds right behind the field of horses! They risk life and limb knowing that virtually every year, an average of two jockeys die while riding races in North America.

Sure none of them die here in this 2-disc set (which is a good thing), but yes a mighty few drop, bounce and roll for the cameras as we progress through this first season! All aiming to win a tidy $35 million dollars in purse money, the 'Jockeys' are always ready to do what it takes to get to the finsh line first ... but all, of course, within the laws of the game! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
