'Scandal: The Complete First Season'
(Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Jeff Perry, Henry Ian Cusick, et al / 2-Disc DVD / NR / 2012 / ABC Studios)

Overview: Go behind the closed doors of Washington D.C.'s elite and watch as the plot unfolds in Scandal: The Complete First Season. When trouble rears its ugly head - headline-making, life-ruining trouble - there's only one person to call: the legendary Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington).

DVD Verdict: The great 'Scandal' is a political thriller TV series that debuted this year on ABC. Starring the always-lovely Kerry Washington, and created by the prolific Shonda Rhimes (creator and executive producer of Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice), Washington's character, Olivia Pope, is actually partially based on former George Bush administration press aide Judy Smith (who also serves as a co-executive producer). And so 'Scandal' takes place in Washington, D.C. and focuses on Olivia Pope's crisis management firm, Pope & Associates, and its staff, as well as staff at the White House.

Pope, a former White House Communications Director for the president, is clearly hoping to begin a new chapter of her life, but she is quickly finding out that she cannot leave certain parts of her past behind. A person with great intellect, she is GREAT at her job and is a handful to be reckoned with.

And as much as buying this first season, due to its mere seven (7) episodes might make its sales price seem rather steep to most buyers, this drama show has wit and charm, and it isn't typical. Ergo, it IS worth investing your hard earned money in, trust me. Indeed, just when you think you have this show figured out the writers throw you a curve-ball!

There are sure-fire talking point moments such as when Pope is asked to meet with The President of the United States, who needs a favor from HER, and so she tells his Chief of Staff, Cyrus Beene to tell the big man to make time to see her if he wants the favor heard! She stands tall in-between two men holding guns on each other! Literally! And the way she commands them to put their guns "DOWN" is enough to have you clapping your hands in approval for her! For, they are a crisis management firm which makes the problems of their clients, big or small, simply go away! She trusts her gut and her gut is never wrong! But, she fixes so many things so many others that sometimes the cracks in her own life appear unnoticed - at first.

With the brilliant Tony Goldwyn ('Ghost') as the President of the United States Fitzgerald Grant and Jeff Perry as Cyrus Beene, his Chief of Staff, this wonderful first season; which thankfully was picked up for picked up for a second season, focuses on the lives of all the team members. In particular, the relationship between Pope and her former employer, the President, and the mystery surrounding Amanda Tanner (Liza Weil) and her involvement with the White House. Sure, there are other cases/stories that the team solves, but these aforementioned are the crux ones.

'Scandal' features some excellent writing, great casting, complex and intriguing characters that have development, and enough suspense to keep you close to the edge of your seat in anticipation for what's coming next! These are all widescreen Presentations (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
