'Tucker & Dale vs. Evil'
(Tyler Labine, Katrina Bowden, Alan Tudyk, et al / DVD / R / 2011 / Magnolia Home Entertainment)

Overview: Tucker and Dale are two best friends on vacation at their dilapidated mountain house, who are mistaken for murderous backwoods hillbillies by a group of obnoxious, preppy college kids. When one of the students gets separated from her friends, the boys try to lend a hand, but as the misunderstanding grows, so does the body count!

DVD Verdict: Oh my Goodness, 'Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil' is quite easily one of the BEST movies to watch with friends (and beer) that has been released on DVD in the past decade! And it is clearly destined to be a cult classic! It stands loud and bloody proud up there alongside the also-brilliant, 'Shaun of the Dead' for hilarious, OTT bloody scenes of fun, confusion, and stupid-ass comments - all that go a long way to prove that the writers are not only uber clever, but frickin' genius' too!

Front and center of this bloody horrible mess (with all love and devotion to its premise meant when saying that!) are Tyler Labine (otherwise now known in my house as Tyler the Cable Guy!) and Alan Tudyk (playing another version of his high-as-a-kite character from ''Death At A Funeral') are BRILLAINT as the unwitting protagonists!

Labine plays the dumb, cuddly, full-bearded not-a-harmful-bone-in-his-body friend to Tudyk's older brother-kinda best friend. Tudyk's character has just sunk all his savings into a vacation house, which not only turns out to be a run down shack, but the scene of a brutal Camp Crystal Lake-style mass murder some 10 years prior! Although, when they see all those newspaper clippings on the wall of the front room, all they see buried in the middle is an ad for tacos!

Anyway, not to give too much of the plot away, these totally harmless guys are on the lake fishing one dark night, see some college kids larking around, witness a female fall into the lake and bang her head, rescue her ... but what her friends see is them kidnapping her and dragging her of to their killing shack!

Chock full, oh so lovingly full of every horror movie cliches known to man, 'Tucker and Dale' is a balls-out comedy romp from start to finish. Inclusive of some mighty clever script foreshadowing, a shockingly wonderful climactic twist, and all sorts of hilarious situations that go a long way (in the eyes of the college kids) to make both our heroes like like "psycho hillbillies," the accidental manner in which the college guys all end up dying are both bizarre and inventively full-color gory! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
