'A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song'
(Lucy Hale, Megan Park, et al / DVD / PG / 2011 / Warner Home Video)

Overview: It’s a modern and enchanting twist on an enduring classic! Katie (Lucy Hale) dreams of being a recording artist but is continually thwarted by her cruel stepmother (Missi Pyle) and stepsister (Megan Park).

DVD Verdict: In truth, I LOVE all adaptations of Cinderella! Yeah, I know, I'm a 34 year-old gal who needs to get out and smell the roses once in a while, but still, there’s nothing like a rags to riches story to make your spirits soar - especially in these times we currently live in!

Back a few years ago we got treated to a new-favorite adaption of Cinderella, the Hillary Duff and Char Michael Murrary film, 'A Cinderella Story.' Aptly named, and well acted, it has been that long (2004, perhaps?) since I have gotten really excited to see another version come forth. And yet now, from my old reliable, Warner Bros. comes a third version of such a "Cinderella Story," this time staring Lucy Hale and Freddie Stroma.

In this latest version it has to be said, by me, of course that Lucy Hale is absolutely adorable! Yes I love her in Pretty Little Liars, so I was always going to be swayed, but I’m pretty much excited to see her in anything these days. That said, 'A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song' puts some new spins into the tale - and boy, being that it is SO obviously geared more towards tweens and teens, it certainly managed to bring the kid out in me!

The new music-filled take on the classic Cinderella fairytale tells the story of Katie and her ups-and-downs of finding true love and embracing her musical talent. The rundown is basically Lucy Hale as the downtrodden teen Katie, Freddie Stroma (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) as Luke, the new transfer student from Europe, Megan Park (“The Secret Life of the American Teenager”) as Katie’s wicked stepsister, Titus Makin, Jr. (“Glee”) as Mickey, Luke’s entrepreneurial best friend, and Missi Pyle (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as Katie’s cruel stepmother. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
