Title - La Bunga
Artist - Pedro Luis Ferrer
For those not in the know, Cuban singer-songwriter, composer, poet and multi-instrumentalist Pedro Luis Ferrer will release a new album, LA BUNGA, on August 28th, 2026, via Dot Time Records.
The 14-track album (Dot Time Records DT9196) was recorded, mixed and mastered by Ferrer in Havana, Cuba and Miami, Florida in 2025, and produced by Ferrer.
Rooted in son, trova, guaracha and other Afro-Cuban traditions, Ferrer’s music has never been about simply preserving the past. He researches it, absorbs it and transforms it, combining traditional musical forms with contemporary ideas, memorable melodies, lyrical wit and an unmistakably personal outlook. I am my own version of what is Cuban, Pedro says. I am my own version of son. I am my own version of trova. I am even my own version of the Cuban revolution. Indeed, it is just that sense of individuality that lies at the heart of La Bunga.
Ferrer performs on the album alongside his daughter Lena Ferrer, whose vocals, percussion and marimbula add another dimension to the music. Their voices create compelling harmonies that connect the intimacy of family with the wider musical history from which their work emerges.

With all the music and lyrics on La Bunga written by Ferrer, and the album having been recorded, mixed and mastered by him also in Havana and Miami, he opens on the affluently ambient Celebración, a dutiful hipsway that drives Papurrico, the alluring Conga Del Pueblo and the engaging rhythms within Soncito and then we are gifted the impassioned Güirón Del Coco, the joyful San Sucé and the decadent To Totá.
Along next is the gloriously sumptuous Consciente, the melodious La Mandonga and the intricately expressive Nengona Mía and they are in turn backed by the frenetically-charged Seduction, the smoothly soulful Son De Medio Peso, the set rounding out on the hypnotic swirls and twirls of Gandinga No, coming to an all-too-soon close on the emotively sculpted wonderment of Conguero Al Cielo.
