For those not in the know, Southern California beach rock band Sandollar had already released “Sunny Day,” the title track from their brand new album, featuring KBong of Stick Figure, and which debuted at #11 on the iTunes Reggae Singles Chart, and so now we are gifted their new full-length also entitled Sunny Day.

Sandollar has built a reputation for high-energy, positive music that blends reggae, surf rock, funk, hip-hop, and alternative influences into a sound that feels distinctly Southern California. With “Sunny Day,” the band leans into the warmth, optimism, and laid-back groove that have long connected them with fans of Stick Figure, Slightly Stoopid, Sublime, Dirty Heads, and Jack Johnson.

This new album Sunny Day now follows the release of the single “Up Up” featuring Dizzy Wright, a reimagined version of one of Sandollar’s longtime fan favorites from the band’s 2013 Pacific Records debut Roller Coaster Ride.

The original version gained renewed attention after being featured in the first episode of Netflix’s hit series Outer Banks, introducing the band’s laid-back coastal sound to a wider national audience.

Melding San Diego beach culture, rock, and reggae, Sandollar’s tight five-piece unit – Lunbeck, keyboardist-vocalist, guitarist Marco Rodrigues, guitarist-vocalist David Basham, drummer Henry Ortiz, and bassist Max Damkoehler – serves up a unique sound featuring good-vibe melodies, shredding rock guitar, and a soulfully tight rhythm section.

With their musically inherent magic being enhanced by some tasteful, mesmerizingly cool hip-hop grooves, Sandollar open their new album on the free-flowing beats that drive California and the pleasing pop-reggae beats I’ll Be There, and then we are brought forth the smooth Sunny Day (feat. KBong), the gently jaunty Midnight, before the jazzy hipsway of Light It Up and the harder-grooved SkateNSurfin are upon us

Along next is the gorgeously affecting tones of So Dangerous and the veritably cinematic, rhythmically guitar-strewn piece Soul Soar, and they are in turn backed by the low slung, beach ’laxin Glitter (feat. Kela Sako), the buoyantly melodic Up Up (feat. Dizzy Wright), and the indie-alt sounds of Follow, the new set rounding out on the upbeat and joyful, Jamiroquai-imbibed Space Alien, coming to a close on the pleasurable soft rocker Time Bomb.
