For those not in the know, Journey to Nowhere is the forthcoming album from New Delhi-born jazz guitarist, composer, and educator Pritesh Walia: a large-ensemble collaboration with the Henry Godfrey Jazz Orchestra built from music developed across years of trio gigs, jam sessions, and rehearsals in Boston and New York.

Arranged by drummer and composer Henry Godfrey, the album features a 27-piece ensemble alongside special guests pianist and keyboardist Aaron Parks, tenor saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi, alto saxophonist Godwin Louis, and pianist Ron Cha.

Pritesh Walia is a virtuoso jazz guitarist, accomplished composer, and dedicated educator hailing from the vibrant city of New Delhi, India. His musical journey began at the age of 13 when he immersed himself in the rich traditions of Indian Classical Music. Fueling his insatiable curiosity for music, Pritesh sought Western influences, initiating a lifelong pursuit of mastering diverse musical styles.

Armed with an Associates of Arts Degree from the Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music, a Bachelor’s Degree from Berklee College of Music in Contemporary Jazz Performance and Jazz Composition, and a Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance from the New England Conservatory, Pritesh has honed his craft alongside some of the finest jazz musicians in the United States.

Drawing from Brazilian music, synth textures, funk grooves, and open-ended improvisation, they open on the sumptuously resplendent eleven minute opus “Journey to Nowhere” and that is backed seamlessly by the decadently sculpted “Bittersweet,” then we get gifted the emotively grooved, veritably cinematic eleven minute beauty “Mirage,” the new set rounding out on the silky smooth ambiance of the ten minute “Does It Work?” and coming to a close on the dutifully free flowing thirteen minute “Hopetown.”
