For those unaware, drawn from distant lands but speaking in one voice, the Cohen Almonte Duo weaves together the pulse of South American rhythms, the soul of Middle Eastern traditions and the spontaneity of modern jazz. Their music lives between composition and improvisation - intimate, intricate, and boldly cinematic.

Their brand new album is entitled Timelines (released via the NYC-based Adhyâropa Records) and is a most masterful documentation of a chance encounter in New York City. It was here that guitarists Tomer Cohen and Rodrigo Almonte discovered that despite the vast geographical distance between their roots - spanning the Peruvian Andes and the Mediterranean - they had seemingly always been destined to come together as one musical outlet.

This quite masterful sculpted, and dutifully ambient new recording opens on the adroitly engaging Savta and then we get gifted the more robustly flavorful Desvairada, the rhythmically staggered Paras and both the decadent A View and the impassioned artistry of Siena.

Along next are the free-flowing musical majesties of Cradle Song which is itself in turn backed seamlessly by the fervently charged, yet elegantly woven Rumi Sonqo, then we are brought forth the emotively channeled Nico, the set coming to an all-too-soon close on the simply gorgeous gossamer of Prayer for Better Days.

Having performed on stages across Europe and South America, the Cohen Almonte Duo brings a seasoned maturity to this debut. The album captures the spontaneity of their live chemistry, stripping away any unnecessary production to focus on the magical moments of two distinct voices speaking as one.
