For those unaware, the most entertaining metal-horror extravaganza is back upon us in the form of Grymheart’s reissue of Hellish Hunt (Scarlet Records).

Grymheart combines the energy of power metal, the harmonies of folk metal, the epicness of symphonic metal and the screaming vocals of death metal.

The most important elements of their sound are the catchy melodies: every track contains memorable parts which get stuck in your head; the songs are mostly fast and uplifting with lots of double kick drums, but there are some slow parts with a darker mood too.

The overall concept and image of Grymheart come from iconic monsters and demons hunter characters like The Witcher, Solomon Kane, Van Helsing etc.; each song tells about mystical creatures such as ghosts, Succubus, the living dead, Ignis Fatuus, or harpies.

This quite masterful metal album opens on the delicately emotive strains of short, but sweet The Twilight Is Coming before the thunderous Hellbent Horde and the harmonious, fervently charged Ignis Fatuus are upon us, and they are followed by the melodious rocker To Die by the Succubus, the cutting title track My Hellish Hunt and the rhythmic rocker Army from the Graves.

Along next is the pulsating Everlost and the regimented rhymical fare of Fenrir’s Sons and they are in turn backed seamlessly by the stridently forthright Facing the Kraken, the coursing power of Harpies of Devil, before rounding out on the Celtic-imbibed, sea shanty-hued rock of Monsters Among Us, coming to a close on the fast-paced bonus track The Dark Rider.
