Title - Mike Finnigan
Artist - Mike Finnigan

For those unaware, over the course of his phenomenal career in music, Mike Finnigan was known primarily as a sideman, the acknowledged master of the Hammond B3 organ as heard on his work with Jimi Hendrix, Stephen Stills, CSNY, Bonnie Raitt, Joe Cocker and many, many other household names.

The fact is that apart from his instrumental virtuosity, he was a gifted vocalist, a magnificent blues singer in his own right. Now, more than four years after his passing comes the eponymous ‘Mike Finnigan’ album (due on March 20th, 2026 via Forty Below Records), his final musical will and testament that features appearances by Stephen Stills, Smokey Robinson, Joe Bonamassa and son, Kelly Finnigan, as well as a who’s who of the key players on the LA recording scene.

In truth, until now no record has ever properly showcased Finnigan’s mastery of the blues genre like this musical tour-de-force. The album was produced by J.J. Blair, whose long association with artists across soul, country and roots music made him a natural fit for Finnigan’s vision. Sessions were completed with an elite group of players, reflecting the esteem in which Finnigan was held by his peers.

4. A Fool For You
5. The Way You Do The Things You Do (feat. Smokey Robinson)

7. She’s Not Just Another Woman
8. All That You Dream
9. Lay Around And Love On You (feat. Dean Parks)
10. Let That Liar Alone (feat. Kelly Finnigan)
11. Sing Me Back Home

With the ability to support and elevate other artists, which made him indispensable, while his own voice remained largely known only to fellow musicians, this essential final recording on the brilliantly blues-driven beauty 20 Years of B.B. King (with Joe Bonamassa) and the free-flowing, flourishingly upbeat My Credit Didn’t Go Through, and they are followed by the low slung storytelling within Don’t Answer The Door, the soulfully impassioned A Fool For You, before the Motown-imbibed The Way You Do The Things You Do (with Smokey Robinson) is brought forth.

Along next is the Gospel-hued It Ain’t Fair and the foot-tapping, midtempo blues rock of She’s Not Just Another Woman, and they are in turn backed seamlessly by the soaring AOR of All That You Dream, the funky blues of the grooved Lay Around And Love On You (with Dean Parks), the set rounding out on the emotively surging Let That Liar Alone (with Kelly Finnigan), coming to a close on the throaty, laidback and moving balladry of Sing Me Back Home.

The project also carries a family legacy. Finnigan’s son Kelly Finnigan, a respected soul artist in his own right, appears on Let That Liar Alone, creating a rare recorded moment between father and son. Additional contributions come from Joe Bonamassa, Dean Parks, Curtis Salgado and the full Jackshit line up, each adding depth without overshadowing Finnigan’s central presence.
