Title - The Night Sky
Artist - Robert Jospé Quartet
For those unaware, the Robert Jospé Quartet began this journey on April 22, 2022, with their first concert at the Prizery Theater in South Boston, Virginia — and after three and a half years of collaboration, that musical partnership has culminated in the album The Night Sky.
The quartet brings together an impressive roster: pianist Daniel Clarke (17 years musical director for k.d. Lang), bassist Paul Langosch (20 years touring and recording with Tony Bennett), guitarist Chris Whiteman (20-year Richmond guitarist), and drummer/bandleader Robert Jospé (35 years faculty member at the University of Virginia’s McIntire Dept of Music and touring artist with the Virginia Commission for the Arts).
Recorded and released by the band, The Night Sky features nine original compositions and two classic covers—and marks Robert Jospé’s ninth album as leader.
1. Crooked Mile [4:01]
2. Samba Sunrise [4:57]
3. Pyramids [4:17]
4. Desert Dream [5:09]
5. Flashback [4:08]
6. The Night Sky [5:39]
7. The Golden Hour [4:50]
8. Some Other Time [5:56]
9. Take The A Train [3:14]
10. Southern Doodle Dandy [4:41]
11. Silver Lining [2:12]
Featuring nine new original compositions, two classic covers, and also being his ninth album as leader, Robert opens his new recording on the robust Crooked Mile and the spirited Samba Sunrise and then we get the luxuriant Pyramids, the smoothly quiet fare of Desert Dream and the funky Flashback.
Along next is the supple fare of the titular The Night Sky and the emotively expansive The Golden Hour and they are in turn backed by the gently sculpted Some Other Time, the upbeat and joyful Take The A Train, the set rounding out on the playful Southern Doodle Dandy, closing on the atmospheric Silver Lining.
