For those unaware, Peter Furlan is a saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator whose striking originality is demonstrated on his albums, Peter Furlan Project – Between The Lines, Peter Furlan – Spy Glass Hill and now on his new release Peter Furlan Project album Live At Maureen’s Jazz Cellar.

In addition to leading The Peter Furlan Project and The Peter Furlan Trio & Quintet, he co-leads two groups Mr. Gone and Le Jazz Electronique.

He has performed and recorded with Terumasa Hino, Dizzy Gillespie, Eddie Henderson, Thomas Chapin, Don Alias, Frank Foster, Brian Lynch, John Hart, Mike Richmond, Terry Silverlight, Cameron Brown, Steven Bernstein, Duane Eubanks, Vinnie Cutro, David Budway, Roger Rosenberg, Ratzo Harris, Richie Morales, Mahavishnu Project, The Temptations, 10,000 Maniacs, The Four Tops and many others. The diversity of these musical experiences inform Peter’s comprehensive and eclectic creative palette.

Currently affiliated with a variety of educational programs in New York and New Jersey, after some introductions the set opens on the soulful blues swing of Return to The Be-Bop Tango and the impassioned The Ice Committee, and then we get brought forth the lavishly elegant The Raconteur and the sterner, yet equally emotively veined Blues Squared.

Along next is the low slung, late night smoky jazz club ambiance of The Crawl Too which is in turn backed seamlessly by the upbeat and sprightly fare of Time’s Arrow, the mid-tempo balladry of Twisted River, the music rounding out on the furtive foot-tapper Perfidia, coming to an all-too-soon close on the funkily grooved Mrs. Clean Freak.
