Title - Closer (Deluxe CD Edition)
Artist - Kim Wilde

For those not in the know, Closer was the follow-up to Kim Wilde’s massively successful 1988 album ‘Close’. While it captures the spirit and style of her earlier work, Kim’s new album introduces a modern perspective, blending nostalgic elements with contemporary sounds.

Kim Wilde’s signature mix of pop, new wave, and rock—known for its infectious hooks, powerful vocals, and anthemic choruses—remains at the heart of her music, ensuring ‘Closer’ resonates with both long-time fans and new audiences.

Kim Wilde, who rose to fame with timeless hits like ‘Kids in America’, ‘You Keep Me Hangin’ On’, and ‘Cambodia’, continues to evolve her sound while maintaining the energy and edge that defined her career in the 1980s. ‘Closer’ is a testament to her enduring appeal and musical innovation.

This expanded, deluxe edition features the full album and a stunning selection of bonus tracks, live recordings and remixes to end the year with a comprehensive Closer collector’s edition.

This dutifully expanded, deluxe edition - featuring the original album along with an exquisite selection of exclusive bonus recorded in relation to Closer throughout 2025 - showcases how once again she has created a series of tracks that provide a masterclass in mesmerizing production built on skill, experience, and accessible compositions by Kim, Ricky, and Scarlett.

Combining retro styling and forward leaning technology and vision, Kim’s voice is stronger than ever with an expressiveness, versatility, and crafting that takes each of these tracks and paints a canvas with the moods of an expressionist painter. There is so much going on with the arrangements that I recommend headphones and several listens to catch the nuances.

There is not a bad track on it and Kim’s voice is still just so perfect. It’s a great combination of pop hooks and edginess that makes it so brilliant with my own favorite songs being Midnight Train, Trail of Destruction, Sorrow Replaced (featuring the always on vocal top form Midge Ure), and Love is Love; but all of the songs are good, trust me.

As for the deluxe additions here to the expanded album, well, Trail Of Destruction (which gets three mixes added here) is simply brilliant and the sort of synth pop rock that you are used to from Kim. My favorite is the Pensacola Mist Remix (RSD 2025), because it is such a wonderful musical journey through time.

Midnight Train gets four run outs here, my own favorite version actually being the more crystalized BBC Piano Room version where it feels like the live setting enhances the quality of the sound, much like it does for a rousing rendition of the live You Came (BBC Radio 2 Piano Room, 4th February 2025). Both just encapsulate just how feckin’ good her voice still is!

Frankly, I have never understood why this woman has not received more credit and support in the US. But ultimately, I don’t think that is what drives her on her journey - it’s simply and obviously her love of singing and continuing to create music with her family. Personally, I LOVE this album - and this wonderful family group of human beings - and cannot wait until the day I get to see her play live.

Kim continues to perform across various locations throughout Europe for the rest of 2025 and 2026. For your chance to get Closer to Kim and see her perform live, the full list of tour dates and venues can be found on Kim Wilde’s official tour page.
