Title - Duologues 4
Artist - Ivo Perelman & John Butcher
For those unaware, Ivo Perelman and John Butcher released their album Duologues 4 on December 2nd, 2025, continuing their acclaimed series of improvisational saxophone duets.
It is part of a prolific output from Perelman, who also released other works like Polarity 4 and Armageddon Flower around the same time in 2025.
Ivo Perelman was born in 1961 in São Paulo, Brazil. He was a classical guitar prodigy who tried his hand at many other instruments - including cello, clarinet, and trombone - before gravitating to the tenor saxophone. His initial heroes were the cool jazz saxophonists Stan Getz and Paul Desmond.
John Butcher was born in Brighton, England and has lived in London since the late 1970s. His music ranges through free improvisation, various structuring’s, his own compositions, multitracked saxophone pieces and work with live electronics, amplification and feedback.
1. Part 1 [7:49]
2. Part 2 [6:18]
3. Part 3 [4:45]
4. Part 4 [4:18]
5. Part 5 [4:22]
6. Part 6 [3:44]
7. Part 7 [9:24]
8. Part 8 [7:45
Yet again proving that Perelman makes some inspired choices in collaborators, he and John Butcher open their new collaboration on the jaggedly ambient Part 1, the textured Part 2 and the layered Part 3, and then we get brought forth the emboldened Part 4, the smoothly confident Part 5, with the flirtatiously playful Part 6 and the low slung Part 7 rounding things out, the set coming to a close on the rhythmically strident fare of Part 8.
