This special edition is available now exclusively through Target in celebration of the album’s anniversary date (November 15th, 2005).
Originally released in 2005, the 9x certified platinum album Some Hearts, catapulted Carrie Underwood to stardom following her historic win on Season 4 of “American Idol.” The album features timeless #1 hits such as “Inside Your Heaven,” "Jesus, Take the Wheel," “Don’t Forget To Remember Me,” "Before He Cheats," and "Wasted.”

Having won American Idol the season before, Carrie Underwood was trying to beat the odds with her debut album Some Hearts. As we all know by now, pop fans across the board are always wary of immediately embracing someone discovered on a TV show, but in country music, just having a likable personality and down-home appeal can go a long way to earning fans; as was proven almost out of the gate.
Interestingly, Underwood performed live at the CMA Awards on the same night that Some Hearts was released, which was fitting, given that she emulated just about every female singer who attended the ceremony on this shining star of a debut recording. Now she has her own voice, but back then, and given all she had been through on AI, she admittedly does dive into being a veritable mimicker of her peers - but, and again, it is important to be aware that back 20 years ago she was still to find her own musical personality.
Lead single “Jesus, Take The Wheel” borrows - as it has subsequently turned out to be widely noted - its harmony and structure from Martina McBride’s “Concrete Angel” whilst “I Just Can’t Live A Lie” similarly leans heavily into Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance,” but that doesn’t mean a jot when it comes to musical quality as they are both extraordinarily melodic.
As she does still to this very day, back then she had a lot of girl-next-door charm oozing through, which actually meant that an, at times, naive timbre to her vocals makes sense for the young girl with big dreams type she embodied.
The songs fit that image very well too, having been built around her AI adventure. I mean, just listen to her autobiographical I Ain’t In Checotah Anymore, which was custom-written for, and co-written by her, as Checotah is the small Oklahoma town where she was born. And whilst the sexy rocker We’re Young And Beautiful pulls her out of her ballad-heavy comfort zone, the wrought, and once bonus track, Inside Your Heaven is a must-listen-to musical gem all of its own making.
Side D (Bonus Tracks)
1. Wasted (Live At Blackbird Studios, Nashville, TN – October 26, 2005)
2. Some Hearts (Live At Blackbird Studios, Nashville, TN – October 26, 2005)
3. Jesus, Take The Wheel (Live At Blackbird Studios, Nashville, TN – October 26, 2005)
4. Inside Your Heaven (Live At Blackbird Studios, Nashville, TN – October 26, 2005)
Including a new exclusive cover and photobook, as well as four exclusive tracks from Carrie’s live session at Blackbird Studios - now all available on vinyl for the first time ever, stand outs on this fourth vinyl side of live cuts are both the enduring beauty of Some Hearts and the strongly emboldened Jesus, Take The Wheel.
In January, Underwood will return for a second season on the judges panel of the hit show “American Idol,” alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie on ABC and Hulu, which she joined this year, marking the 20th anniversary of her winning the title.
