Title - Reckless Meter
Artist - Convergence
For those not in the know, Reckless Meter is the exhilarating new live album from Convergence, Colorado’s premiere modern jazz ensemble.
Recorded in front of an invited audience at Mighty Fine Productions in Denver, the album captures the spontaneous energy and deep musical synergy that has made Convergence a cornerstone of the region’s jazz scene for over 30 years.
Reckless Meter features original compositions by members of the ensemble, performed with the boldness, nuance, and telepathic interplay that only years of collaboration can produce.
The lineup includes: Eric Gunnison - piano, Greg Gisbert - trumpet & flugelhorn, John Gunther - saxophones, Mark Patterson - trombone, Mark Simon - bass and Paul Romaine - drums.
The album’s title reflects the group’s fearless approach to time, form, and improvisation. From tightly woven grooves to wide-open harmonic exploration, Reckless Meter is a compelling document of a band pushing the boundaries of modern jazz while staying deeply rooted in its tradition.
We wanted to make a record that felt alive and what better way than with an audience right there in the room with us? said drummer Paul Romaine. You can feel that energy in every track.
Recorded and mixed by the renowned team at Mighty Fine Productions, the album maintains an audiophile quality while preserving the raw immediacy of a live performance.

The acclaimed modern jazz ensemble Convergence returns with Reckless Meter, a powerful new live album that opens on some mesmerizing horn work and breathtaking solos within Big Boot and then we get the fervently charged Springaling, the warmly inviting softness of Margaret Clara and the rhythmically emotive It’s One Or Not One.
Along next is Master Jake, a track where the ensemble get to showcase a more precisely, slow cooked take to their work and that is in turn backed by the regimentally rhythmic, dulcet yet flourishing Cauldron, the set rounding out on the harmonically smooth Coyote Moon, coming to a close on the formidably exuberant ensemble work shown within the dynamite Reckless Meter.
