The musical goal of exo-X-xeno is to be a group about musicianship and thus crafting adventurous conceptual compositions into amalgamated tapestries of progressive rock sounds.

Their sonic mission is to make innovative and expansive music first, while vanquishing pop hit formulas and transcending melodic barriers into sophisticated, experimental, sublime yet accessible pieces of art works for humankind.

On June 19th, 2025, progressive rock project exo-X-xeno launches its long-awaited LP album release into the stratosphere, called “Luminous Voyage.” This epic music adventure is a concept album led by composer, vocalist and guitarist Craig Maher, founder of exo-X-xeno, who also designed the cover artwork.

exo-X-xeno is a musical constellation consisting of founder Maher, bassist and backing vocalist Billy Sherwood (Yes, Toto and Conspiracy with Chris Squire), drummer Jay Schellen (Hurricane, Yes and Asia) and legendary keyboardist Patrick Moraz (Refugee, Yes and The Moody Blues).

This brilliantly sculpted prog-rock masterpiece opens on the amalgamated tapestry of woven rhythms and harmonies that drive The Event Horizon and the voluminous Vitruvian Man, and then we get brought forth the rather folk-hued, Van Morrison-esque vibe of At the Water’s Edge, the ascending balladry that drives Onward, Love, the collective powerhaus of Reaching for Beyond, the set rounding out on the Rush-like Into the Night, closing on the joyful celebration that is Live Life.

The Maher/Sherwood/Schellen/Moraz lineup has already successfully launched as a remarkable collaborative prog rock project with two singles behind them, and “Luminous Voyage” is the phenomenal culmination of musical material.

exo-X-xeno’s first single, “Onward, Love,” successfully debuted on January 15th, 2021, to an enthusiastic global prog rock audience. The group’s second single, “Reaching for Beyond,” followed on July 15th, 2021, to further high acclaim. Both singles have been aired by various online radio stations worldwide and have received high praise from the prog rock community.

“Craig has a musicality about him that is inspiring and among the many reasons I enjoy working with him,” Sherwood said. “He has a creativity in his writing, he’s not afraid to push the envelope. That’s something I’ve always tried to do as well, and so we had an instant bond when it came to working together.”

Calling the album a “masterpiece” and “absolutely brilliant,” Moraz says, “The more we listen to it, the more discoveries and sonic explorations there are! Unbelievable!”
