Title - Everything Means Nothing
Artist - Mattie Schell

For those unaware, Mattie Schell is at the forefront of the newest crop of young artists redefining Americana music. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, she deftly blends the heartfelt honesty of American roots with the raw power of soul, creating a sound that has roots in tradition but is proudly and uniquely her own.

Her debut solo release Everything Means Nothing (out April 25th, 2025) was produced by JD Simo at his studio and mixed at Nashville’s historic Compass Sound Studio (aka “Hillbilly Central”) and Schell has already given her fans a sneak peak of the new record with the Delta soul-infused single “Coast to Coast” [born from the challenges of life on the road and alienation that comes from being away from your loved ones.

1. Rivertown Trip
2. Hard Times
3. Come Back To Me
4. Thank You
5. Anniversary
6. Coast To Coast
7. Is The Party Really Over?
8. Everything Means Nothing
9. And So It Goes

With Mattie taking care of the vocals, electric guitar, mandolin and acoustic guitar, we first get brought forth some soulful grooves that drive Rivertown Trip (about a visit to the historic Mississippi River town Alton, IL) which is followed by some low slung guitarmanship on Hard Times, the bluesy folk harmonies of Come Back To Me (which tells the story of antebellum mansion in Alton that served as a stop on the Underground Railroad) and the organ-imbibed alt-rock of Thank You.

Along next is a gentle twang that drives Anniversary and then we get the rhythmically pleasing, rousingly appealing sing-along Coast To Coast which is in turn backed seamlessly by the beautiful balladry of Is The Party Really Over?, the music rounding out on the titular emotively engaging love song Everything Means Nothing, closing on the emotively sculpted, harmonica-driven And So It Goes.
