Title - Machine Living in Relief
Artist - E.W. Harris
For those unaware, E.W. Harris is an alt-folk songwriter, producer, and artist based in Brooklyn, NY. A self-styled “Folktronicist” and “Dystopian Romantic,” Harris combines sonic textures, memorable melodies, and powerful vocals to create music he calls “folk tunes from an (im)possible future.”
The story of his brand new EP Machine Living in Relief is definitely on brand - late one night, E.W. Harris was having a last-call conversation in a bar when someone challenged him, “You won’t make a completely acoustic record about robots and AIs!” His response, naturally, was “The hell I won’t!”
Under the Radar described the EP as “Dystopian sci-fi narratives traced in idiosyncratic folktronica ... a misty and mystic turn for Harris,” while Magnet was impressed with the “Wildly imaginative goth-folk vignettes ... set in Rocket City, basically Harris’ post-apocalyptic fusion of Narnia and Blade Runner’s Los Angeles,” and Alt77 was drawn into the “strange universe of myths, lies and half-truths” and mused that “E.W. Harris is a fascinating, intelligent man who may or may not be working on starting a doomsday cult.”
Machine Living in Relief drops on March 28th, 2025. The night before, the NY-based artist, who is currently on a US tour, will celebrate with a show at The Local in Astoria. Following the release, he heads overseas for a string of dates.

This magnificently structured, heartfelt and impassioned new EP opens on the pop-lite gentle bounce of Sooner or Later and the Dave Matthews-esque Chemical Fire and then we get a Coldplay-imbibed resonance that resides within The Nail Beside The Door, the melodious Accidents Repeating, the recording rounding out on the all-embracing Casual Violence, closing all too soon on the quietly astute, harmonized balladry of Treble Negative.
