Title - Flying High
Artist - Les Sabler

For those unaware, when two-time Grammy-winning producer Paul Brown agreed to produce contemporary jazz guitarist Les Sabler’s Tranquility album, it led to a transformational project by the fretman.

With Brown at the helm, Sabler hit a new creative zenith on that 2021 album. For his ninth album, Sabler reunited with Brown to record Flying High, which will release on February 3rd, 2023 from New Vista Records.

Im at the top of my game, hitting my creative stride on the last album (Tranquility). It was such a great experience to have Paul produce Tranquility, and I was extremely comfortable with his direction and guidance. Without a doubt, it resulted in a landmark recording for me. Flying High takes it to another level, says Sabler, who reassembled the same creative team for the new album.

1. Over The Top
2. Compared To What
3. Moonlight
4. Flying High
5. Old Friends
6. New Bossa
7. The Windmills Of Your Mind
8. Summer In The City
9. Soft and Smooth
10 Double Jeopardy
11. A Child Is Born

This melodically dulcet new album opens on the sumptuously free flowing, confident mid-tempo mood setter Over The Top (inclusive of Greg Vali’s whimsical flute work) and the perky, veritably heated jam Compared To What, and then follows those up seamlessly with the late night, sinewy electric guitar, yet at all times embracing their collective ode to silky jazz, Moonlight, the smooth grooves within the titular Flying High, and then we get the more forthright, yet still wholly curated from his trusted nylon stringed guitar, Old Friends.

Up next is the aptly-named, and multicultural amalgam powered by a vibrantly animate melody, New Bossa, and that is itself backed by a balmy, yet infectiously gripping, sultry staccato Latin groove rendition of the Academy Award-winning The Windmills Of Your Mind, before we are brought forth a melodious, finger-snapping Summer In The City (which is actually inspired by Quincy Jones’ version from 1973), the summer’s embrace of Soft and Smooth, the album rounding out on an almost crystalline Double Jeopardy, closing on a rhythmically beautiful homage to one of Sabler’s influences, guitar legend Kenny Burrell on A Child Is Born.
