Title - Crisálida
Artist - Danilo Pérez feat. the Global Messengers
GRAMMY® Award-winning pianist, composer and educator Danilo Pérez hopes to usher in a new era of enlightenment that will unite all of humanity with his epic new album, Crisálida, which in English translates to “chrysalis.”
Incorporating multiple artistic disciplines that include works from Panamanian painter Olga Sinclair, Panamanian photographer Tito Herrera, and spoken word from his Chilean wife and saxophonist Patricia Zárate, Crisálida (due out March 18th, 2022 via Mack Avenue) is a holistic inter-disciplinary package that invites listeners to reimagine a world in which we all create our own crisálida so that our individual light and humanity radiates regardless of gender, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation.
And, in turn, we nurture that prismatic iridescence to better care for the environment and human race. “I envision Crisálida as a protected space where we all come together, whether we’re addressing immigration issues, climate change, environmental justice, science, interconnecting different art forms,” Pérez explains. “We need to work together to build our new crisálida, which, to me, is the emotional, mental and physical state of protection in our early development.”
La Muralla (Glass Walls) Suite:
1. Rise From Love
2. Monopatia (Pathways)
3. Calling For The Dawn
4. Muropatia
Fronteras (Borders) Suite:
5. Adrift
6. Al-Mustafir Blues
7. Kalesma (True Calling)
8. Unknown Destination
His La Muralla (Glass Walls) Suite is first up, and thus this work of musical art opens on the stunningly ornate, atmospheric, and veritably translucent Rise From Love and the intricate guitar musings of Monopatia (Pathways), before bringing us the drum-led beats of Calling For The Dawn and then the emotively joyous Muropatia.
His Fronteras (Borders) Suite then begins with the flickering gossamer of the beautifully sung storytelling (from Farayi Malek) within Adrift which is itself backed by the more studious, quietly strident Al-Mustafir Blues, the album rounding out with the evocative Kalesma (True Calling), coming to a close on the gently fervent hipsway of Unknown Destination.
