For those unaware, Raffi’s label, Troubadour Music, has just released Frogs and Birds by the award-winning Lindsay Munroe.

Lindsay is also joined on many of the songs by Raffi, who also produced the album.

Eight of the songs were originally written by Lindsay for Bridges Learning System, an innovative new curriculum that highlights the strengths of neurodiverse students.

These songs use music to build bridges of understanding between people. Written in conjunction with the SEA Bridge curriculum, they reinforce concepts around social communication, such as recognizing our similarities and celebrating what makes us different.

The vibrantly alive, crisp and bountiful new album opens on the lilting title song, a duet with Lindsay and her daughter Mem, a tender and joyful tune about considering other people.

Mother and daughter first alternate verses and then join for a collective chorus, with Raffi blending in for the final chorus and that is then backed by the expressive Faces Show Our Feelings, their rendition of BMI songwriter Jimmie Davis’ You Are My Sunshine [feat. Raffi], the buoyant Feelings Like The Weather and then we get the delicate Little Bird On My Window [feat. Raffi].

With the melodic voices of Munroe’s children adding the icing on the cake of this family songfest, up next is the suggestible Flexible And Easygoing and the dulcet harmonies of I See You [feat. Raffi], which are in turn followed by the perky and instructional The Ally Song, the subtle directive within Conversations, and then comes their totally melodious rendition of a song first brought to light by Eileen Barton in 1950, If I Knew You Were Coming [feat. Raffi].

This simply stunningly opulent new album then rounds out with the informatively revealing Very Funny Things [feat. Raffi], a tale about mental health found within the excellent Take A Breath, closing on the gently euphonious Where There Is Love [feat. Raffi] and their rendition of the whistling wonderment that is Roy Rogers’ Happy Trails [feat. Raffi].

Building on the success of I Am Kind, Raffi and Lindsay have filled Frogs and Birds with even more positive, hopeful, original songs, including two – I See You and Where There Is Love – that were written specifically for this album by Raffi, along with such enduring, classic favorites as You Are My Sunshine, If I Knew You Were Coming, and Happy Trails.

While primarily drawing from her experiences with her own children, Lindsay Munroe has also found inspiration in the Raffi Foundation’s online course in Child Honouring.

Lindsay’s songs reflect the Child Honouring principles of Respectful Love, Diversity, Caring Community, Emotional Intelligence, and Nonviolence.
