Title - 'Pioneers Of Space'
Artist - Hawkestrel
If you are not in the know, hot on the tail feathers of last year’s debut album from Hawkestrel, the project spearheaded by former Hawkwind bass player Alan Davey, comes this brand-new album from the quintessential Hawkwind supergroup!
Made up of more Hawkwind alumni than any previous project, Hawkestrel is truly the next evolution of this legendary British rock legacy.
The new album, Pioneers Of Space, continues the sci-fi adventures with a mix of original compositions and bold covers including the wildly adventurous version of Post Malone's megahit 'Circles' - featuring some stellar guitar work from Hall Of Fame nominee Todd Rundgren.
And Rundgren isn’t the only special guest here for also contributing their talents are former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor, prog legend David Cross, electric violinist L. Shankar, wild man Arthur Brown, MC5’s Wayne Kramer, and lots more!
1. 'Biometrics'
2. 'Cosmic Divide'
3. 'Day Of The Quake'
4. 'Glass Wolves'
5. 'Atmospheric Window'
6. 'Circles'
7. 'No Doubt'
8. 'Journey'
9. 'Pioneers Of Space'
Opening with the longest track on the album, the near-nine minute long, and very (at some points) Synchronicity-esque 'Biometrics,' they back that up with the beautifully Eastern-tinged orchestrations of 'Cosmic Divide,' the guitar rocker 'Day Of The Quake,' and then atmospheric musical adventures of 'Glass Wolves.'
The short, but oh-so synth sweet, gentle rock balladeering of 'Atmospheric Window' then leads us into the land of the totally unexpected, their rendition of Post Malone's megahit 'Circles.'
Here with the aforementioned guitar work from Hall Of Fame nominee Todd Rundgren at the fore, the foot-tappin' delicacy has been totally transformed into an instrumental track that, simply put, blows the mind!
Next up is the reverb guitar, early '90s lo-fi grunge sound of 'No Doubt, which is followed by the mid-tempo, sold school rock of 'Journey,' with this magnificent album coming to a close on the yearning orchestral deliverance, rock opus, Celtic-tinged title track, 'Pioneers Of Space.'
Available in a digipak CD and two vinyl configurations, you can also get this album as a special double vinyl set with a bonus EP, or the single LP in RED colored vinyl!
