Title - 'Blood and Water' (CD Single)
Artist - Potter's Daughter & Annie Haslam

For those not in the know, the international art pop band Potter’s Daughter was formed in NYC while North Pocono native Dyanne Potter Voegtlin (piano, vocals, composer) was studying classical piano performance at the Manhattan School of Music.

The group performed regularly in NYC, as well as in northeastern PA, and has been featured on radio and TV.

Now, joining forces with longtime friend, Amit Chatterjee, (producer, arranger, and guitarist), Ian C. Voegtlin (composer, guitarist, saxophonist), Randy Crafton (percussion), and Walter Sitz (drums), Potter's Daughter has just-released their first single since the release of their debut album, The Blind Side, last spring.

Indeed, and furthermore, Potter's Daughter are not only extremely honored to share this new single, 'Blood and Water' with us all, but are beyond excited to reveal that it also features a very special guest artist, Annie Haslam.

Annie, as I'm sure you will all be well aware, is the legendary lead singer from the band Renaissance, and has also had a long and diverse solo career.

And aside from the fact that Annie has an incredible five-octave vocal range she is also a talented painter, and simply a warm-hearted and genuine woman all round.

Listening to the single now here in the office, on both CD single and a very rare 7" single (vinyl, and which is always my go-to listening pleasure), it's obvious that the love and admiration between all the aforementioned musicians for the song to be as instantly accepting to our hearts and souls reveals just how free flowingly gracious their combined talents were that day.

With the poetic lyrics for ‘Blood and Water’ having been co-written by Dyanne and her dear friend, Ronda Dubiel, their embodied spirit of our human connection to each other, to the love we can do better to spread, to the glorious layers of nature that surround us, and to the World in general is both captivatingly resonant and stirringly poignant in today's current climate.

Having stepped away from their debut album sound of acoustic music this new single showcases the new progressive rock sound of the Potter's Daughter.

Complete with some fantastic percussion from Randy throughout, a beautiful guitar solo from Ian midway through, the always ethereal vocals of Annie backed supportively by Dyanne, and a rather searing guitar solo from Amit rounding the new recording out, the up tempo single is admittedly different from their debut The Blind Side, but never jarringly so.

Oh, and lest we forget that Ronda’s daughter, Addy Dubiel is the young and talented artist who created the thought-provoking artwork for the cover of ‘Blood and Water’.

Interestingly enough, 'Blood and Water' was actually recorded in several studios, including one in Old Forge, to accommodate the far-flung musicians’ busy schedules.

"This was the most collaborative process I’ve ever done in my life, from composing to recording to lyrics to artwork," Dyanne explains. "For example, Amit and Walter recorded the drums and bass in Vienna.”

Potter’s Daughter are currently working on a new album and Dyanne is pleased that all of the songs for the album were written in pretty much the same way, as a collaborative effort between Dyanne and Ronda for the song lyrics and with music largely composed by Dyanne’s son, Ian.

"Ian will improvise and I have a library of ideas he’s come up with," Dyanne explains. "Sometimes one will captivate me and I take that idea and develop it into a whole song,” she continues.
