Title - 'Clocks And Clouds'
Artist - Jukka Iisakkila
The art of 21st Century instrumental jazz-rock fusion moves to a higher level with the first solo album by Finland's esteemed recording artist, composer and conductor Jukka Iisakkila.
Following in the artistic footsteps of Finland's late, great orchestral-rock icon Pekka Pohjola, Jukka's seven track Clocks And Clouds CD is filled with soaring instrumental rock-fusion instrumentals that would find a home with any Pohjola fan.
Both as a composer and guitarist / keyboardist, Jukka covers all the basses and, with the aid of drummer Ilkka Saarikoski, gives the album a fine fusion stamp.
1. 'Freefall' (6:53)
2. 'The Only Sound Is Waterdrops' (7:09)
3. 'Inner Universe Fever' (5:54)
4. 'Interludes' (2:26)
5. 'Clock And Clouds' (6:48)
6. 'Darling We've Made A Mess' (6:39)
7. 'Shakin' It On' (6:18)
The forthright Prog rock of 'Freefall' kicks things off here very nicely and definitely showcases exactly what's to come on this quite stunning, vibrantly transcendent post rock motif-laden album.
The dynamic edges and swirls on the longest track 'Only Sound Is Waterdrops' makes for a beautiful car journey in the making; top down, music playing, sun shining and that's backed by both the sterner Prog guitar and fast drumming approach of 'Inner Universe Fever' and then the short, but oh so sweetly dulcet, playful keys of 'Interludes.'
The title track, 'Clocks And Clouds' is a searing guitar wonderment of art, to be sure, and that's backed by my own personal favorite on this elegant 7-track album, the brilliantly quirky jam of 'Darling We've Made A Mess.'
The light, jazzy guitar and key work of the album closer 'Shakin' It On' brings a rather delightful close to an album that has already fast become one of my Best of 2019.
