Increments of Fire in Judea
By: D.S. Lliteras - Rainbow Ridge Publishing - $16.95
Overview: Increments of Fire in Judea follows the apostle James, brother of John, on a spiritual quest for Christ and forgiveness. After failing to prevent Jesus’ arrest at Gethsemane, James is struck down by an armed mob and left for dead.
He awakens, consumed by remorse for abandoning and later denying his Lord, stranded in a bleak landscape of guilt. Whether James can navigate these obstacles is revealed through an investigative journey into the complex mystery called imperfect faith.
Verdict: In what is an incredibly skilled, artfully sculpted, and dutifully embodied new book, D.S. Lliteras has returned here within the pages of Increments of Fire in Judea - An Apostle’s Search for Christ to bring forth the tale of an Apostle named James and his search for Christ; due to what he firmly believes is his need to seek forgiveness over his personal, individual failure to prevent Jesus from being arrested at Gethsemane.
But James is also just now discovering that he has obtained a mysterious, yet severe blow to his head (struck upon him when he was attempting to escape from an armed mob accompanied by soldiers and Temple guards), and so as groggy as he is, as unsure as he is, and as confused as he most assuredly is, his concussional heavy rage worsens when he quickly then realizes he is no longer even at Gethsemane. Even how he got to wherever he was now was clouded in the painful fog of the mystery blow, but he still manages to get himself back onto his feet and starts walking towards an as yet unknown destination.
I myself grew up with the Biblical accounts that emphasize that Jesus was entirely in control and could have escaped or called upon legions of angels for protection. Scriptural fulfillment tells us that Jesus allowed the arrest to happen voluntarily so that the prophecies and God’s plan for the crucifixion would be accomplished. The disciples’ reaction was undoubtedly overcome by fear after the arrest took place, all of the disciples abandoning Jesus, fleeing into the darkness.
And so entwinned within what we have been told, along with what could also have happened, and all sewn together with an incredibly tightly woven work of prose art, and whichever you way you yourself wish to undertake the reading, the understanding, and the historical implications brought forth, Increments of Fire in Judea is a book that not only mesmerizes within its telling, but has an innate ability to enthrall at every page turn.
Does this apostle successfully maneuver off this terrain despite its many obstacles? An outcome is suggested through an investigative journey that crosses into the spiritual region inhabited by that complex mystery called imperfect faith.
