Mysteries of the Mountain Moon Tribe
By: Jack Ruedisueli - Our Street Books - $19.95

Overview: Mysteries of the Mountain Moon Tribe: A Graphic Novel by author Jack Ruedisueli is the story of a young girl’s adventure through a mysterious land full of giant creatures and dead machines from a time long forgotten - and all told through the pages of a beautifully expansive graphic novel.

Verdict: Here within the pages of one of the most stunningly glorifiable, excellently prepared, and artistically sublime novels I have had the privilege to read this past decade, we journey to a distant land where we find a mountain that has no end, a mountain so tall that the people who live within its highest peaks know nothing of the world below the clouds.

It is a mountain full of mystery and monstrous creatures the likes of which you have never seen. Hiding within the peaks, we find the mountain moon tribe and our main girl, Mia, the child elder and first of her generation. Born thirteen years ahead of her peers, she bears the huge responsibility of guiding them through life.

But Mia is troubled by an unrelenting itch for adventure, and when she makes a wish upon a falling star, her wish is granted but ultimately threatens the destruction of her village. Mia is flung into a race to prevent the extinction of her people, chosen to go beyond the forbidden lands and seek the help of an ancient spirit dwelling many miles away, in the heart of the mountain itself.

Along her journey, she will meet the monstrous creatures that plagued her bedtime stories, and upon the journey’s end, she will discover a terrible truth that will change the future of the mountain forever.

As for that artwork, well, as noted it is graphic novel-hued, so what you get on each page turn is one full illustration spread across, each containing some text that moves the story forward. It is a most wondrous dreamscape of imagination and showcases the first-person main character narrative perfectly.

Again, and I cannot stress this enough, everything about this newly released book is simply stunning. From the artwork, to the prose, to the conceptual design, through to just how affecting it is to your soul as you read, and visually admire each and every page turn, Mysteries of the Mountain Moon Tribe is a book that I suggest all households immediately invest in for their coffee tables and such.

About the Author - Jack Ruedisueli is 24 years old, less than fresh out of university and still looking for his place in this world. Ever since he was young he loved to draw the weird and wonderful to escape into his own world, but until a couple years ago had no idea how to use this skill in a career. He studied interior architecture for 3 years at the University of Westminster, hoping designing buildings would quench his creative thirst - unfortunately, it did not. He lives in Lincolnshire, UK.
