Stakeholders
By: Mark Englizian - Business Books - $19.95

Overview: People in business’ eco-system are more in number and diverse in perspective, discussed in business school or written about than often understood.

Indeed, it is foolhardy to believe that a senior leader can ignore or work around these people, who possess power and influence over the business and the enterprise.

Furthermore, it is up to supervisors, managers, executives, and independent directors to set priorities and make value-based decisions that constructively benefit all stakeholder groups invested in their business.

While its story is, at first, quite intimidating, laying out the competing agendas of stakeholders and the potential chaos that might ensue, this book will not leave the reader hanging - it serves up new and proprietary principles (never published before) that equip business leaders to survive and thrive.

Verdict: When asked about their experiences on the people side of business, most businesspersons respond from their experiences with the human resources department. In contrast, this book advances the idea of people in business as more than simply a focus on employees.

Indeed, leaders with a holistic view realize the existence of eight major stakeholder groups, diverse in makeup and ready to advocate for their own interests.

As for the title of this new book from author Mark Englizian, Stakeholders (The Intersection of Human Beings in the Eco-System of Business) showcases the fact that these are the people in your business with competing agendas and conflicting expectations, and where mature leaders make it all work.

For of course we all understand the importance of having good people working for you, themselves thriving within the business construct and therein ethic that one has created to evolve others within, but inside these gloriously crafted, expertly-guided pages of a rather compelling series of case studies - along with the author’s own personal stories - we see that although this approach to macro-level systems thinking and well-being can sometimes lead nowhere, that these very same actionable experiences can also more often times find a lucid pathway that leads into a unique and wholly actionable framework that ultimately bears the fruit of valuing such diverse stakeholders via an salient understanding of a direct and constructive act of leadership.

About the Author - Mark Englizian is a recognized leader at the intersection of people and business. He has been a public-company executive, adviser to chief executives, independent director, leadership mentor and strategic influencer. During his business career, Mr. Englizian held management and executive roles with industry-leading companies including the Walgreen Company, Amazon, Microsoft, and Tektronix. He lives in Rio Verde, AZ.
