King Of The Forgotten Darkness - A Raven’s Tale
By: Dr. Erik Goodwyn - Roundfire Books - $25.95
Overview: Twenty-four-year-old Liam is a traumatized warrior in a paradise free of war. He works his high-rise job. He is safe, comfortable, and free of suffering.
For years, the portals to the brutal and magical world of Erentyr, where Liam came from, have been sealed, civilization protected. All that Liam wants is to live a normal life, to forget about his family’s slaughter in Erentyr before he escaped. But soon he learns that one of his family members is still alive.
Flush with terror but clinging to hope, Liam illegally returns to Erentyr’s savage but Fairywild beauty. Once there, however, he finds that much more than fear and hope has awakened in him.
Verdict: In what is a genuine page turner of a traditional fantasy / Sci-Fi blockbuster, which twists and turns without the reader getting jolted out of the fascinating narrative at all, King of the Forgotten Darkness: A Raven’s Tale Fantasy by author Erik Goodwyn is a massively enthralling, genuinely intriguing and wholly captivating narrative on a scenescape that may well have been done before, but, perhaps, never quite in such a mystically mythological fantasy fiction prose.
Compelling throughout, grippingly developed and with a writing style that draws you in and has an uncanny ability to keep you entertained, even when pondering the merest of scenarios upcoming, or expounding on a much wider prose of scene-building. For this story of Liam and Mia’s trials and tribulations as they make their way through Erentyr (one inhabited by gnomes, giants, faeries and so many more mythological entities) is one built on magical fantasy of the highest level.
For Goodwyn’s city building - a futuristic cityscape with a portal that leads to a medieval expanse of wonderment - is first class, detailed, dutifully intricate and yet always expansively colorful and easy to wander as a reader.
