A Glimmer In The Hollows: A Novel
By: Lorna Selley - Roundfire Books - $24.95

Overview: When a child goes missing in a misty mountain town, a woman uncovers secrets that lead her into the forest where she untangles the truth from local legend and pieces together her own fragmented memories of childhood tragedy.

Verdict: Twenty years ago, six-year-old Olivia Garcia ran into the looming evergreens of Driftwood State Park, leaving her babysitter, Jessica Paige, alone on an unlit gravel road. Most of Jessica’s memories of that night vanished with Olivia, except for strange visions of two girls falling into a black pit, deep underground.

Haunted by nightmares and fragmented memories, Jessica spends her nights searching for clues about the past and why so many children disappear in the misty Appalachian town of Driftwood.

But Jessica isn’t the only one looking for answers. Disarmingly attractive, bestselling author Elliot Reed is in town, intent on weaving Driftwood’s eerie legends and conspiracies into his next paranormal thriller. After a chance late-night encounter in the woods, flashlights in hand, Elliot and Jessica begin to unravel a mystery as dark and winding as Driftwood’s forest trails.

In what is a literal page-turner of a novel from author Lorna Selley, A Glimmer In The Hollows is one of those books where after reading only the first page you are hooked enough to continue onward a few more, before, and without warning, you find yourself a few chapters in and still wanting to consume more!

The entwining plot points together with bountiful intrigue and well-drawn characters - the latter a vibrantly crafted, increasingly developed as the book progresses, set of entities - all enable this paranormal tale of how our lead Jessica spends her nights searching for clues about the past; but moreover, her own, previously-buried memories.

A town veritably cloaked in a heaviness of secretive motions and notions, Driftwood is a place that has sheltered a spine-tingling secret, one which has only grown unbeknownst to anyone not akin to it, and one that now is being picked at, being investigated, having a light shone on it for the very first time; and trust me, a gripping story complete with an eye-opening conclusion is about to be unearthed for all to see (and have to subsequently deal with!)

For this new prose is dutifully atmospheric, alarmingly eerie, and almost always beautifully threaded with a seductive amount of mysterious suspense. So much so that remarkable fiction writer has brought forth one of the best books of its genre in many, many a year.

In conclusion, A Glimmer in the Hollows is a haunting story told through multiple perspectives and timelines, weaving together elements of mystery, sci-fi, and romance in a complex narrative that challenges the very notion of reality.

About the Author - Lorna Selley adores all things metaphysical, and her fiction blends traditional mystery tropes with supernatural and cosmological elements. After 15 years in content development and editorial roles, she followed a lifelong dream of writing, inspired by singular explorations around the world and the tense, atmospheric detective fiction she encountered in her studies. She’s a graduate of Suzanne Kingsbury’s Gateless Writing Academy. She lives in Miami, Fl.
