Sun Magic How To Live In Harmony w/ The Solar Year
by: Rachel Patteron / Moon Books / $12.95

Overview: Live in harmony with the solar year and utilize all the magical powers it provides. Sun Magic is a book filled with the basics of the sun cycle, the representations and correspondences, what magic to work and when. It also looks at the solar year, sun deities, sun spells, meditations, specific sun rituals, sun recipes and more.

Verdict: A companion volume to the bestselling Pagan Portals - Moon Magic, Sun Magic: How To Live In Harmony With The Solar Year by author Rachel Patterson is just one of those books you can pick up at any time, whether you have read it through or not, and just happily dissolve into a chapter of your choice for the foreseeable moments thereafter.

And just like the moon, the sun has phases which can be used to tie in with your magical workings to add an extra boost of power. The sun measures time, where it sits in the sky denotes what time of the day it is, and a sun dial would be quite useless without the sun to cast a shadow!

Rachel goes on to say that she also thinks the point between night and day and vice versa, that moment of hand over is quite special, and then brings forth five points of observation:

Sunrise – Basically when the sun wakes up and peers over the horizon. This phase is all about new beginnings, changes, health, employment, renewal, resurrection and finding the right direction. It can also be very cleansing.

The morning – This is when the sun is growing in strength, so it brings the magical power for growth, positive energy, resolutions, courage, harmony, happiness, strength, activity, building projects and plans, prosperity and expansion of ideas.

High noon – When the sun reaches its peak in the sky at midday – work magic for health, physical energy, wisdom and knowledge. It is also a good time to pop your tools or crystals out that need charging. (Note: some crystals can fade in strong sunlight so check first before putting them out.)

The afternoon – The sun is heading back down, and the energy now is good for working on business matters, communication, clarity, travel, exploring and anything professional.

Sunset – As the sun takes itself off down below the horizon, work magic for removing depression, stress and confusion, letting go, releasing or finding out the truth of a situation.

In summary, Pagan Portals’ Sun Magic is yet another quite wondrous book that is chock full of delightful information about the sun, its energy, and how to use that energy to conjure up your very own magical workings. Written with ease and in a way that is both informative, yet personally impassioned, Rachel’s descriptive prose is not only relatable, but enjoyable.

As for the author herself, she describes herself as thus: I am a witch ... have been for a very long time ... the real sort, but I am also a working wife and mother. I am also a High Priestess of the Kitchen Witch Coven and an Elder at the online Kitchen Witch School of Natural Witchcraft.

My craft is a combination of old religion witchcraft, kitchen witchery, hedge witchery and folk magic. My heart is that of a Kitchen Witch.

About The Author: Rachel is an English witch who has been walking the Pagan pathway for over thirty years. A working wife and mother with over 27 books published (so far), some of them becoming best sellers. Her passion is to learn, she loves to study and has done so from books, online resources, schools and wonderful mentors over the years and still continues to learn each and every day but has learnt the most from actually getting outside and doing it.

Oh, and she likes to laugh...and eat cake! Rachel gives talks to pagan groups and co-runs open rituals and workshops run by the Kitchen Witch Coven. High Priestess of the Kitchen Witch Coven and an Elder at the online Kitchen Witch School of Natural Witchcraft. A regular columnist with Fate & Fortune magazine, she contributes articles to several magazines such as Pagan Dawn and Witchcraft & Wicca.
