'Poseidon'
(André Braugher, Josh Lucas, Jimmy Bennett, Kurt Russell, Emmy Rossum, et al / NR / 90 mins / Warner Bros.)

Overview: Captain Bradford (Braugher) delivers a holiday toast to the passengers on board his luxury cruise ship, the Poseidon. But on the horizon is a giant wave, and it's approaching fast. Unable to avoid it, Bradford watches helplessly as the wall of water slams into the vessel. The Poseidon is turned upside-down and quickly begins sinking. A few hundred survivors — including a gambler (Lucas), a 9-year-old kid (Bennett), his mom (Barrett), a fireman and his daughter (Russell, Rossum), her fiancé (Vogel), a suicidal man (Dreyfuss) and a waiter (Rodriguez) — are left trapped in the ship's ballroom. They must fight through the remains of the ship and find a way to the water's surface before the Poseidon heads to the bottom of the ocean.

Verdict: For a wild moment there, I honestly thought that everyone was trying to outdo David Blaine - as there are MANY scenes of people holding their breath underwater for hours on end!! Basically, the new 'Poseidon' is noisy, occasionally exciting, perfunctory at times, and to be quite truthful, a gallant stab at significance. And sure for the most part the film is utterly empty-skulled, but as much as it may well be cheese-ladden it is also quite refreshingly; in in a high amount of go-go-go moments, excellently undemanding also! Basically, this is great fun if you are able to leave your brain at home!!!
