'Two For The Money'
(Al Pacino, Matthew McConaughey, Rene Russo, et al / R / 85 mins / Universal)

Overview: A star college football player (Matthew McConaughey) blows out his knee, forcing him to consider other career options. Soon, he's hired by a man (Al Pacino) who runs a big-time sports-booking business.

Verdict: While director D.J. Caruso keeps things moving here in 'Two For The Money', Dan Gilroy's formulaic screenplay holds no surprises and, to be quite frank, an overacting Pacino saves the sluggish film from being unwatchable! In truth, you have to admire a movie as enthusiastically and unrepentantly cheesy as this, a sincere and sincerely turgid male weepie, short on the number-crunching nitty-gritty! At the end of the day, nothing is more satisfying as Pacino as his own worst enemy in roles like this!
