'The Ring 2'
(Naomi Watts, Simon Baker, Sissy Spacek, Emily VanCamp, et al / R / 91 mins / Dreamworks)

Overview: In this sequel to the successful horror flick The Ring, Naomi Watts reprises her role as Rachel Keller, who, six months after the evens of the first film, moves to Astoria, Ore., with her son, Aidan, to escape their memories of what happened in Seattle. When a few locals start dying, however, and a strange videotape reappears, Rachel becomes aware that the creepy Samara is back and after Aidan.

Verdict: The charm of 'The Ring Two' is primarily based on the film's ability to make absolutely no sense, while nevertheless generating a real enough feeling of tension a good deal of the time! To be quite frank, the tortuous logic demanded to create a sequel doesn't hold up to any reasonable scrutiny here and that in itself is a damn shame. Sure, as sequels go, 'The Ring Two' is much more accomplished than most, but in the end the uneven story undermines this horror franchise.
