'King Arthur'
(Clive Owen, Stephen Dillane, Keira Knightley, Ray Winstone / PG-13 / 112 mins / Touchstone Pictures)
Overview: In this realistic, historical take on the King Arthur tale, Arthur (Clive Owen) is presented as a politically savvy ruler who manages to unite all the knights errant roaming throughout Britain after the fall of the Roman Empire, establishing order and enforcing law upon a land that has fallen into anarchy.
Verdict: An engrossing, highly intelligent reimagining, 'King Arthur' is impressively made, well acted ... and is an element of broad, brawny camp that prevents itself from being a complete drag! Somewhat less compelling than the 'Lord of the Rings' movies, at least it takes the conversation with history somewhat seriously! But, luckily for all of us, if Knightley's warrior Guinevere is the best thing in 'King Arthur,' it's not the only delight for this revisionist mythmaking is yet another fine example of how an epic story can be told in just over two hours of screen time.
