I-Spy
(Eddie Murphy, Owen Wilson / PG-13 / 105 mins / Sony Pictures)

Overview:Loosely based on the late-1960s TV show, I Spy is about a CIA agent (Owen Wilson) whose latest assignment is to recover the Air Force's newest weapon: a stealth bomber. His partner on the case is a professional boxer (Eddie Murphy) who has entered the agency against his will. The mismatched pals verbally jab at each other from the moment they begin playing the spy game, but can they stop sparring long enough to save the free world?

Verdict:The teaming of Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson is not only fabulous, but incredibly smart, except for one major flaw: IT DOESN'T WORK ! The devolution of Kelly Robinson from a suave Bill Cosby to an eye-popping, gold-chained Murphy is a definite sign of the times for sure, but 'I Spy' has now become an overblown clunker full of bad jokes, howling cliches and by-the-numbers action sequences. Beyond the flick's lame premise, the stars are mired in tired shtick which leads to a nostalgia-free shit job that features what could be Eddie Murphy's shrillest performance to date ! In fact the biggest laughs, although far and few between, are in the idea of Mr. Murphy and Mr. Wilson fighting to upstage each rather than the placed ones in the movie !
