Creatures of the Night [DVD]
(Andrew Readman, Michael Socha, et al. / DVD / NR / 2026 / Wild Eye Releasing)

Overview: A wandering drifter stumbles upon a mysterious castle deep in the barren countryside. But what begins as simple curiosity soon turns into a nightmare as he is thrust into a world of werewolves, zombies, and other bloodthirsty monsters!

DVD Verdict: Overall, this is a great low budget anthology film and is also one that I can honestly say, from the heart, that I may well have seen done many times before down the years, but this version is definitely in the top 10 of them.

The scenes with Michael Socha and Andrew Redman are really well acted and scripted, featuring some funny little interactions between the pair, which only goes to showcase just how good their on-screen chemistry truly was.

Admittedly there are some slower parts than others, but that doesn’t matter as what we get is enticing enough to keep us obediently watching. We get these segments, and they are followed by vignettes of Socha and Redman interjecting their unique brand of humor - which makes for the most perfect bite-size breaks.

There are also some nice special effects throughout, most of the time, and although it obviously isn’t a big budget presentation, it doesn’t have to be. Even without the expectation of magnificent CGI effects with perfectly delivered lines, this British-produced horror (complete with just the perfect amount of humor throughout), is well worth spending your time with, trust me on this.
