Eminem: Count Me In! (DVD)
(Eminem / DVD / NR / (2025) 2026 / Legacy Distribution)
Overview: Rapper, record producer, songwriter, and actor, Eminem has a wide range of talents. Rolling Stone magazine named him King of Hip Hop by and one of the 100 greatest artists of all time.
No doubt, Eminem defied all stereotypes to become one of the biggest sensations in the rap industry. Eminem’s powerful rhymes share stories of his personal struggles.
Despite his massive success, Eminem is no stranger to legal troubles and is known for his explicit use of words, often sending out aggressive signals. Despite his struggles, this rap artiste has won the hearts of critics and fans alike, earning more than a dozen Grammy awards.
DVD Verdict: In truth, and as much as I wanted to truly love this documentary (given the man is from my city of Detroit), it’s kind of unbelievable how many mistakes were made in the production/editing side of things. The narrator (maybe A.I.) repeated lines multiple times for no good reason and, at times, all we got to see was one long shot of a blurry photo of Eminnem!
Add to that desynced audio, weird silences and a barrage of repetitive points and Eminem past doings, and the spoken points of views scattered liberally throughout - which I actually appreciated - I honestly feel like the great Marshall Mathers deserves better.
BUT, as I hate to piss on anything we are kindly sent for review (I once may, and in reflection, over harshly) reviewed a Crosby, Stills & Nash album and got a phone call direct from David Crosby himself telling me all sorts of negative things about my journalist approach to reviewing his new recording!) what we get here is a storytelling of Eminem’s life/career along with spoken facts that, sure, at the end of the day feels like an hour plus long version of a Wikipedia article, but it is revealing, informative and at the end you do feel like you learnt things about the Hip-Hop legend.
