Blu-ray Verdict: OK, from the off I can tell you - from my heart - that Nickelback and Chad Kroeger deserve far more recognition than they do the mid-2000s hate. The iconic voice and the incredible chemistry of the band have created tons of hit songs. Give this band their due respect before we look back on them after they’ve passed and say how we should have respected them a little more for what they accomplished.
OK, rant over, but it is all true what I just said, heartfelt and with genuine feeling, as I myself interviewed Chad at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit when they were opening for someone else and on his tour bus, just me and him, he gave a wonderful interview and then signed my CD for me.
As for this documentary, it is thoroughly immersive, takes you from his days growing up in a podunk town, through to when the hits started coming, on out the other side into the mid-2000s and the interwebs hate that seemingly sprang up out of nowhere, to what he hopes the band can represent now as they still write, record and play live here in 2026.
Perhaps the only reason they got hated so vehemently was because radio stations overplayed them to death. But that’s not Nickelback’s fault for being uber successful and mastering their rock sound for their millions of fans!
