4K Blu-ray Verdict: The Million Eyes of Sumuru is a Harry Alan Towers produced Sax Rohmer Eurospy story filmed at the Shaw Brothers studios in Hong Kong with Frankie Avalon as a C.I.A. agent on vacation and Shirley Eaton as the beautiful seductress Ms. Doctor Evil, ahem, I mean, Sumuru.

And that’s not to mention the extended cameo by Klaus Kinski as the fey President Boong (!), the leader of the fictional country of Sinonesia, who carries around stacks of half-naked photos of his favorite girls!

It opens with a bridge bombing and a woman toying with a man’s head between her thighs. Neck goes snap. Sumuru’s girl squad continue their murder spree with one of their own (for falling in love), death by bikini kill. This is The Spy Who Shagged Me level tongue-in-cheek, trust me.

Avalon is wonderfully smarmy as special agent Tommy Carter. People keep dying and George Nader’s Agent Nick West is increasingly annoyed at how it’s ruining his vacation. Maria Rohm is a new recruit who has her top pulled down to the approval of the sisterhood. Oh, and men are turned to statues with a special “cubra mortis” gun.

In short, Jess Franco’s sequel is a lot kinkier, but this one is a lot more funny. Pick your poison, or throw them both down the hatch! The choice is yours, my friends.
