The Vagrant (Special Edition) [Blu-ray]
(Bill Paxton, Michael Ironside, Marshall Bell, Mitzi Kapture, et al / Blu-ray / R / (1992) 2022 / Arrow Films - MVD Visual)

Overview: The 90s cult classic is back! Directed by Chris Walas - FX genius of Gremlins and The Fly - The Vagrant is a demented black comedy starring cult icons Bill Paxton (Aliens, Twister), Michael Ironside (Scanners, Starship Troopers), Colleen Camp (Death Game, Clue) and Marshall Bell (Freddys Revenge, Total Recall) in a grimy blend of satire and grisly terror.

Mild-mannered financial clerk Graham Krakowski buys a run-down starter home only to discover a vagrant, living in the empty lot across the street, keeps appearing inside. Attempts to remove the homeless man lead to a feud that spirals out of control and tests Grahams sanity as the vagrant engages him in twisted mind games, defiling his home, and framing him for gruesome murders.

Beloved character actor Bill Paxton stepped up to leading man status in The Vagrant and proved his extraordinary range in a role that runs the gamut of emotions and climbs to stratospheric heights of craziness. Newly restored from the original camera negative The Vagrant is a one of a kind movie that deserves a place in any cult film collection.

Blu-ray Verdict: I worked at a video store right out of high school. I would rent movies all the time, since it was free for us employees. This was the mid-1990s. I saw the box cover for The Vagrant VHS with a picture of Bill Paxton and the headline Hes NOT home alone!

I immediately rented it. Ive probably watched this movie 20 times over the years and even bought copies online (always VHS) and gave them as gag gifts to a few friends. It is, without a shadow of a doubt, a very hilarious, low budget classic which after about 20 minutes in the comedy/horror combo really takes off!

Man, the restaurant scene alone is worth the price of admission, let alone the courtroom scene, the whole deluxe security system set up, and the running paranoia theme throughout!

Bill Paxton is at his absolute best. Its not a perfect film, but because no one on the planet has heard of it, and its caused me to literally cry numerous times from laughter, Ive got to try now, especially as it is on crystalline Blu-ray from Arrow Films, to convince you all to watch it ... so just do that tonight!

In closing, if you have an odd, very quirky, dark comedy style of humor, you simply must check this out! Even the soundtrack is genius. By the way, quite randomly (but makes perfect sense), Mel Brooks is an executive producer on this film!
