'Mind Games: MVD Rewind Collection'
(Maxwell Caufield, Edward Albert, Shawn Weatherly, Matt Norero, et al / Blu-ray / NR / (1989) 2020 / MVD Visual)

Overview: Maxwell Caulfield ('Grease 2') stars in this taut psychological thriller from director Bob Yari (producer of the Academy AwardŽ-winning 'Crash') about a family's battle for survival against a cruel, scheming stranger.

Blu-ray Verdict: To be very honest, 'Mind Games' is a very memorable movie with a plausible plot and subplot which meant even back then it held my attention; let alone here today!

Trapped in an unhappy marriage, Dana Lund (Edward Albert, 'Galaxy of Terror') and his wife, Rita (Shawn Weatherly, 'Police Academy 3: Back in Training') try to breathe new life into their relationship by taking a trip through northern California with their 10-year-old son Kevin (Matt Norero, 'Roseanne').

Along the way they pick up Eric (Caulfield) an amiable hitchhiker who's a psychology student. But Eric's charm masks the fact that he is psychotic. Sensing the Lund's vulnerability, he decides to take control of the family, then destroy it through deceit and emotional manipulation.

At first the Lunds are easy prey until they realize they've become victims of a bizarre reign of terror. They begin to fight back in a desperate attempt to save themselves from Eric's madness and perverse mind games.

Not your typical horror flick, nor a traditional thriller, 'Mind Games' works because the motives of the sociopath are not made clear from the off.

Over time they are slowly revealed, mainly through his own private journal, but even then it not only showcases how one sick and twisted individual can wreak havoc on unwitting people in the blink of an eye.

It further illustrates why families should be protected and why strangers should be kept away from children, but that's a whole other batch of fish ton fry!

A film that is very suspenseful and excitingly entertaining, 'Mind Games' has no nudity, very little violence, but packs a whole bus load of suspense and intrigue, that's for darn sure.

Sure something like the original (or latter day remake, to be honest) 'Cape Fear' has a better edge to it, but any film of this type done well fully deserves its audience. And so, if you are (much like myself) a purist of this kind of cinematic genre, well, you are all going to be very happy with this new-to-Blu-ray release from MVD Visual. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
