'Mötley Crüe - The End Live in Los Angeles'
(Mötley Crüe / Blu-ray+CD / NR / 2016 / Eagle Vision)

Overview: On December 31, 2015, legendary rock icons Mötley Crüe completed their 35-year touring career as a band with a spectacular final concert at Staples Center in their hometown of Los Angeles, CA, just 10 miles from the Sunset Strip where the band's infamous and decadent career first launched.

Blu-ray Verdict: For those not in the know, and what makes this last gig of theirs so damn special, is that (and unlike Cher and Phil Collins who retire all the time, only to keep coming back), in January 2014, Mötley Crüe signed a binding legal document known as “cessation of touring” agreement, preventing them from touring under the band’s name past the year 2015! The first of its kind this was followed by their two-year FINAL TOUR, performing across five continents (North America, South America, Europe, Australia and Asia), with 164 shows in 72 markets and grossing over $100 million.

And so, here on New Year's Eve 2015, Vince Neil (vocals), Mick Mars (guitars), Nikki Sixx (bass) and Tommy Lee (drums) came together for the very last time (as Mötley Crüe, at least!) From massive, cutting-edge pyro, including Nikki Sixx's bass guitar spitting fire over 30 feet into the air (which is actually a very cool photo on one of the digi-pak's fold out sections), not to mention Tommy Lee's Crüecifly drum roller coaster, amongst many other spectacular elements, 'Mötley Crüe - The End Live in Los Angeles' has to be one of the most adrenaline-fueled rock shows I have ever witnessed!

So, aside from loud music, hit after hit after hit, and pyros blasting off behind every song, what else did we get to see here on this huge night for the band? Well, as assumed, each band member got their individual moments to take their solo performance bow. Bassist Nikki Sixx actually calmed the whole preceding down by sitting down onstage to tell a rather moving story of stealing his father’s knife as a child. Mars used the spotlight to simply indulge himself, lose himself more like in an insane, and yet highly poetic guitar solo. Tommy Lee took his final signature trip on his drum set roller coaster, but that didn't quite go according to plan! Stuck midway through his solo, the mechanism failed and so en masse of stage hands scampered on stage to actually climb the rig to help get him down! And, finally, and with a a fiery pentagram on display behind him, singer Vince Neil closed the main set on a crane in the middle of the arena as confetti and balloons rained down!

As for the music, well, Mötley Crüe tears through a massively explosive set, inclusive, as aforementioned, of all their hits from the biggest moments in their career. Adding in tracks from the first five records and their most recent, 2008’s Saints of Los Angeles, Neil may not be in the best shape, physically, of his life, and yes, he may well have huffed and puffed a few too many times come the last third of the show, but vocally he was; for the most part, in fine form. Indeed, he has never sounded better than when unleashing his trademark "hellcat wails" like on 'Shout at The Devil'

The final song of the set was the one to remember though, as being it was the final Crüe song they would ever play live, the ballad 'Home Sweet Home' simply became so much more poignant to the fans. Indeed, for this finale, the Crüe stepped out to the middle of the arena on a raised platform, literally becoming the center of attention to all that had paid to come see them play that night. Talk about tears in the eyes of everyone at that moment.

As the four-piece known as Mötley Crüe left the stage for the very last time, Frank Sinatra’s 'My Way' accompanied their exit. And so, yes, they have done it their way for three decades, but now, these original rock 'n' rollers of what was once called "heavy metal" are going to have to be content with reliving the old times as the band they were now, officially; legally formerly known as. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs, and comes with the Bonus Feature of:
