'Katy Perry - The Prismatic World Tour, Live'
(Katy Perry / Blu ray / NR / 2015 / Eagle Rock)
Overview: The Prismatic World Tour Live is a sensory explosion of eye-popping theatrics, daring acrobatics and of course, all the hits. This concert film is a visually stunning production that captures Katy's fun-loving personality and artistic vision. Spanning the entire length of the arena floor, the innovative Prismatic tour stage allows Katy to share intimate moments with her fans in a unique shared connection with the music.
Blu ray Verdict: The noise of the sold-out crowd is deafening. White hot spot lights beam tracks all around the arena from the stage. A dancer sporting a multi-colored, florescent-lit Mohawk, holding a white, also florescent-lit spear, performs some tribal moves. Drums sound, another flies in from above, more appear from nowhere, a tribal "battle" ensues, the back/center stage pyramid opens and ... Katy Perry, hands on hips, appears! Kicking off the whole evening of pure, unadulterated, incredible entertainment - visually and musically - Perry's attention to dance moves is spot on. She even manages, come the middle of the opener 'Roar,' to do some florescent jump roping!
It's hard not to sit back and enjoy this 147 minute extravaganza, trust me! I have to say, I've sat through some dull, run of the mill, by the numbers live concerts and as much as there is a lot of programmed chants, lyrics, mic sounds here on view, Prismatic is hundred times "more live" than anything Britney Spears ever brought to the fore! You just cannot turn your eyes away from this Perry live show and nor should you. I mean, this review could carry on, detailing every song, with everything she does and/or says (inclusive of bringing fans up on stage, singing to little girls, etc., but it would last close to 10,000 words; because there's just that much to point out and/or discuss!
So, just to bring it down to a few certain moments, here is what the "label" says about what you are about (hopefully) to go out and purchase: "Directed for the stage in seven thematic acts, this unmissable spectacle features hit after hit after hit, and The Prismatic World Tour Live truly captures the excitement, color and energy of the live Katy Perry extravaganza." Yup, and for once, the contents are exactly as the label says!

The concert utilizes a huge stage, which extends forward, well into the audience, and Katy, along with an ensemble of fellow performers, continuously utilize all of it, bouncing, dancing, and in general keeping everyone engaged visually, as much as musically. It's easy to imagine her losing a few pounds, in the course of the show, just from the (almost) continuous workout.
The thing is, as I hope I have managed to convey from the start here, 'Katy Perry - The Prismatic World Tour, Live' is all highly engaging stuff. The songs already suck you in for the "catchy, chorus, sing-along's" (as the audience does, throughout the whole show), and there is a continuous feast for the eyes. But as well as the sing-along, it absolutely makes you want to stand up, and bounce/dance right along with her and her troop of performers.
It's like having a new workout tape in your front room again! Because, let's be honest here, Perry is so energetic at times, that it almost makes you feel guilty, and a bit lazy, if you don't get up and dance along! And, of course, as in her past concerts, Katy undergoes something like a half dozen complete wardrobe and hair changes, all to fit in with a similar number of complete theme changes in the staging of the performance. As aforementioned, she does everything from jump rope, to fly around the auditorium, during the course of the performance, while belting out one top ten hit, after another.
And lest I forget to mention all the incredible videos that play behind her - especially, my favorite, the "paint video", the animated cat moments, and the end of show fireworks display! Ergo, this is a highly enjoyable, and highly recommended, two hours of addictive fun. Oh, and the inside color booklet is one of the best I've seen in a LONG time too! This is a Widescreen (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
