The Originals: Complete Second Season [Blu-ray]
(Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Leah Pipes, Danielle Campbell, et al / 3-Disc Blu ray / NR / 2015 / Warner Bros.)

Overview: As Original vampire-werewolf hybrid Klaus Mikaelson returned to the vibrant, supernaturally charged city of New Orleans, he was stunned to learn - along with siblings Elijah and Rebekah - that Hayley, a werewolf, was pregnant with his child, and his vampire protégé, Marcel, whom the Original siblings had thought long dead, was ruling the French Quarter. Welcome to 'The Originals: Complete Second Season' - let the games begin!

Blu ray Verdict: Well, let's start at the very beginning, because that's exactly when I first got hooked on this ingenious, creative, compelling show. A spin-off from 'The Vampire Diaries' and set in New Orleans, 'The Originals' centers on the Mikaelson siblings, otherwise known as the world's original vampires: Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt).

As the story in season on unfolded, now Klaus must take down his protégé, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), who is now in charge of New Orleans, in order to re-take his city, as he originally built New Orleans. Klaus departed from the city after being chased down by his father Mikael, while it was being constructed and Marcel took charge.

And as Klaus has since returned after many years, his ego has provoked him to become the king of the city. "Every King needs an heir," says Klaus, accepting the unborn child. The child is a first to be born to a hybrid (part vampire, part werewolf) and a werewolf (Hayley).

Well, that all said, and the truly biggest change this year is Klaus himself! Last season saw him become not quite so brutal, and a little less a villain whilst awaiting the birth of and trying to protect his daughter. This season we see the Klaus of old. Willing to do anything to anyone, friend family or foe, who stand in the way of his agenda. Even though most of this was done for the main intent of protecting his daughter and not just for his own selfish reasons, there are some things he did that might not be forgiven.

The general conflict among communities - vampires, werewolves, witches, and humans - is portrayed through conspiracies, planning, secret weapons, and failed tries and attempts at treaties. Then there is tension within the family with revelation of hidden truths of the past. Indeed, my only real complaint, as such, about this season is that some of the story arcs tended to drag, and the season at times moved very slow.

I would have like to see more episodes in the middle that kept the story going instead of this happening at the end of the season, where some may have gotten bored and stopped watching. But, for the love of all things that are good and sensible, do they all have to wear black in most every single shot?!
