'The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age Smackdown'
(Blu ray+DVD / NR / 2015 / Warner Home Video)
Overview: When Fred loses his family's vacation money, he hatches one of his hair brained plans to get it back. It's a sports entertainment spectacle that involves throwing his best bud, Barney into the wrestling ring with the likes of John Cenastone (John Cena), Rey Mysteriopal (Rey Mysterio) and even The Undertaker, with Fred himself as event promoter!
Blu ray Verdict: My goodness! How much FUN was this to watch! 'The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown' is a direct-to-video film starring The Flintstones and various WWE superstars and is actually WAY more fun than it sounds! And, I know, trust me, its just SOUNDS like fun!
Yeah, I know, I loved this, and being that it is actually the second co-production between Warner Bros. Animation and WWE Studios following the equally brilliant 'Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery,' I have to say I honestly think they are onto something here re: this partnership.
The film features Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble and the whole Bedrock gang with stone age versions of WWE Superstars and Divas. And, as I know your first thought is are they really the actual WWE wrestlers doing their animated voices, well, YES, they most certainly are! Check out this incredible list for yourself of the WWE crew that's on board and on screen for this latest collaboration:
John Cena as John Cenastone
Rey Mysterio as Rey Mysteriopal
Vince McMahon as Mr. McMagma
Daniel Bryan as Daniel Bryrock
CM Punk as CM Punkrock
The Undertaker as The Undertaker
Mark Henry as Marble Henry
Released this very month of March, by Warner Home Video and WWE Home Video, it features Jeff Bergman as Fred Flintstone, Kevin Michael Richardson as Barney Rubble, Tress MacNeille as Wilma Flintstone, Grey Griffin as Betty Rubble/Pebbles Flintstone, Frank Welker as Dino/Baby Puss/Hoppy, Michael Sheehan as Bamm-Bamm Rubble, and The Bella Twins as Nikki Boulder and Brie Boulder.
Amazingly, it is also the first NEW Flintstones production in over fourteen years since 'On the Rocks,' fifty-five years after the original 1960's series and also the first Flintstones film without original creators, Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera who have died respectively a decade ago (the 2000s). This is a Full Screen Presentation (1:33.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
The Superstars of Fred Flintsone Entertainment (FFE) Featurette
How to Be A Stone Age Superstar Featurette
