DVD Verdict: "If you look hard enough, you can find anything," reads the tagline, and that's very true, based on what we encounter here in this new film starring Monty Python's Carol Cleveland.
Thirty years ago David Jones' younger brother Simon disappeared without a trace; he has never been seen since. His father tells David that Simon now lives with the space people . David has spent the last 30 years searching for Simon.
Funded by a small but fortuitous lottery win David has traveled the world, meeting anyone who has a story about abduction and UFO sightings. David is convinced he is onto something. But his mother refuses to talk about the loss of her son Simon and has given up hope that David will ever settle down and his friends are fed up with his UFO obsession.
All alone now in his project to find Simon, 'The Search for Simon' is one of those films that defies logic, and yet is utterly compelling to behold. Noted as a cross between both 'Shaun Of The Dead' and TV's X-Files, it's David's chance encounter with a book writing psychologist with an ear for obsession, that leads to our hero falling for a pretty young woman that suddenly changes his life's perspective.
Don't be fooled into thinking that 'The Search for Simon' is purely about Alien Abduction though, no matter what the cover art suggests to you! No, for this movie is much more about obsession, addiction, loss and most importantly, of course, love. For isn't that what we are all searching for in life?
