'Grilled'
(Ray Romano, Kevin James, et al / DVD / R / 2006 / New Line)
Overview: Meat connoisseurs will adore Grilled, possibly the only film dedicated exclusively to high quality beef. Maurice (Ray Romano) and Dave (Kevin James) are meat salesmen roving the San Fernando Valley, armpit of America, for clients to buy their line of prime-cut steaks. Once they get a hold of the hottest leads in town, Maurice and Dave embark on a comedic adventure spiked with danger and sexual innuendo involving transvestites, gangsters, and even Burt Reynolds, playing the macho beef lover hosting his son’s Bar Mitzvah.
DVD Verdict: I love Ray Romano and Kevin James, but maybe they are only funny in their TV shows. At least no one has given them a decent movie script yet and that includes "Hitch". This movie was absolutely terrible - not a funny scene in the whole movie, and I think it was supposed to be a black comedy - the type of movie I generally love. Save your money but most of all your time. The premise of the movie was just too prefabricated, and not original or clever at all. It felt like a poorer adaptation of Chris Farley and David Spade in 'Tommy Boy'! Here's hoping they both get to work together again in something that matches their higher comedic caliber than what this movie offers. This is a Widescreen presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and come with the Special Features of:
"Maury & Dave and Company" behind-the-scenes featurette
"Ray and Kevin: True Life Buddies" featurette
